Tunisian Reverse Purl Stitch (Trps)

⇐ Back to Basic Stitches
Instructions

To begin: Chain any number to length desired.

Foundation
Row one forward: Insert hook into first chain space from hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop. * Insert hook into next, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * keeping all loops on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Stitch:
Row two forward: * Pull yarn forward to front; moving over the strand, insert hook under next. Yarn over, going backward (over and back round hook to front), hook the strand and pull up a loop. Use your left thumb to anchor the yo's the the base of the stitches while you pull up loops. Repeat from * to last.  Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Variation: Using the front vert. bar adds height, while using the back vert. bar stacks the purls right on top of each other. The stitches are twisted and identification of which is the front and which is the back is not as obvious, so be sure to notice that the front vert. bar sits closest to your hook. The bottom half of the sample shows the stitch using the front bar and the top half shows the stitch using the back bar.

Repeat row two for pattern.
