Tunisian Drop Stitch

⇐ Back to Lace Stitches
This stitch is inspired by the knitted drop stitch. It is worked over two rows, using the Backwards Purl Stitch (Tbps) to form the way the long threads lay.

Notes:
Tbps (Backwards Purl)

Instructions:
To begin: Chain to length desired

Foundation:
Row one forward: Insert hook into first chain space from hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop. * insert into next, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * keeping all loops on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Stitch:
Row two forward: Tbps in each across, pulling up a long loop after each stitch to the desired length. Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook. (If you don't like the way the first and last stitch in the row are so loose, try making a tight chain as your first stitch to desired length, then match with a chain in the last stitch.)

Row three forward: Tbps in each across. Row three return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook. (It takes some time to get used to finding the next stitch when they are so loose. I have found that if you consider all the vert. threads as being side by side instead of front and back, it helps to just continuously skip one and use the next.)

Repeat from row two for pattern.
