Tunisian Chevron

⇐ Back to Stitch Patterns

 Tunisian Chevron (aka Ripple) is made just like as in classic crochet, with matched increases and decreases forming arches, but is made in the two step process of Tunisian. The following pattern will guide you in making a steady ripple, but once you get the hang of it you can change it around to make ripples bigger or smaller, or experiment with different stitches to suite your own needs.

Notes:
To Increase: Pull up a loop from the space between the two vert. bars of working stitch and the two vert. bars of next (as in a Tfs)
To Decrease: Yarn over and pull through three loops.
Tss = Simple Stitch

To begin: Chain in multiples of twelve to desired length, plus chain three.

Foundation:
Row One: Insert hook into first chain from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. * Insert hook into next chain space, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * to end, keeping all the  loops on your hook.

Row One Return:  Yarn over and pull through on loop on hook. * Yarn over and pull through two loops on hook. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook

Pattern:
Row Two Forward: Tss in first, increase once, * Tss in each of next 12,  increase once, Tss in next, increase once. Repeat from * to last two. Increase once, pull up a loop from the last.

Row Two Return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * four more times. Decrease twice. +  ** Yarn over and pull through two loops, repeat from ** 10 times, decrease twice. Repeat from + to the last seven. Yarn over and pull through two loops until one loop remains on your hook.

Repeat Row Two.
