Loop Cables

⇐ Back to Relief Stitches

These create a much bulkier cable than post stitches or any raised basic stitches and are super easy to form. They can travel in any direction including horizontally.
To make them keep an extra hook close by.....

To form the cables: Work background stitch to point of placement. Pull up a loop from next, chain 5-8 (depending on desired tension, yarn weight and hook size)

For Vertical Cables: Continue across in normal fashion, and repeat the chain directly above previous chain loop in next and each additional row

For Diagonal Cables: Continue across in normal fashion, and repeat the chain in stitch that falls just before or just after previous chain loop in next and each additional row

For Horizontal Cables: Work background stitch in next, pull up a loop from next, chain 5-8 (work the cable loops at every other stitch) across to end of cable (or last two stitches of row).

To form and anchor the cables: Pick up the extra hook (or use your fingers). Go through the loop created by the first or bottom chain and grab the next one up, or across for horizontals, and pull it through the first. Continue in this manner until no more loops are left. Slip the last loop onto your working hook. Pull up a loop from next stitch in the working row, so that the chain loop is no longer on your hook (as in a slip stitch) and each additional.
