Tunisian Seed Stitch

⇐ Back to Lace Stitches

The Seed Stitch is very easy to make and is done by simply adding a chain to the tops of each of your working stitches. It makes them slightly taller, and while it isn't really openwork, it is lacy, lighter, and creates a very nice drape to the fabric. I personally prefer this technique with the Tks or Tss but it can be done with any basic stitch. The following pattern uses the Tks to illustrate how to work it.

Instructions:
To begin: Chain any number to desired length.

Stitch:
Row one forward: Insert hook into first chain space from hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop. * insert into next, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * keeping all loops on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Row two forward: Chain 1. * Insert hook in next, between the two vertical bars and under the horizontal bars, from front to back through the fabric (as in a Tks), yarn over and pull up a loop, chain 1. Repeat from * to last keeping all loops on hook. Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Repeat row two for pattern.
