Tunisian Filet

⇐ Back to Lace Stitches
Tunisian Fillet uses a combination of the Double or Treble Crochet stitch with the same method of creating spaces as used in the eyelet stitch. This creates a similarity in the method and look of the forward and the return pass and allows for much larger openwork. These instructions use the Tunisian Double Crochet with a matching space of two skipped stitches to illustrate how it is worked. To make this taller use the Tdc (with the Eyelet Stitch) to make the spaces wider, all you have to do is match one Yo for every space skipped and return as normal.

Instructions:
To begin: Chain in multiples of three to desired length plus four

Pattern:
Row one forward: Yarn over three times (twice for skipped stitches, once for the Tdc), skip four chains, insert hook in next, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. * Yarn over three times, skip two chain spaces, insert hook in next, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * to end, keeping all loops and yarn overs on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Row two forward: Chain two. * yarn over three times, skip two chain spaces,  insert hook in next; going behind first thread, over middle thread, and under the last, back to the front. Yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * to end, keeping all loops and yarn overs on hook. Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.
