Tunisian Diagonal Stitch

⇐ Back to Fancy Stitches
The Diagonal Stitch is a variation of the Simple Stitch. It uses the same mechanics as the Crossed Stitch but offsets them by adding a regular Tss to the beginning of every other row, pushing them over and creating a pattern of diagonal threads.
To begin: Chain in two's to desired length.

Foundation: Row one forward: Insert hook into first chain space from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. * Insert hook through next, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * keeping all chains on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Stitch:
Row two forward: * Skip next vertical bar. insert hook under next and pull up a loop (as in Tss). Insert hook under skipped vertical bar and pull up a loop (as in Tss). Repeat from * to last. Insert hook under last and pull up a loop. Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.

Row three forward: Insert hook under next vertical bar and pull up a loop (as in a Tss). * Skip next. insert hook under next and pull up a loop (as in Tss). Insert hook under skipped vertical bar and pull up a loop (as in Tss). Repeat from * to last. Insert hook under last and pull up a loop. Row three return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.
Repeat rows two and three for pattern.
