Tunisian Back Post & Front Post Stitches (Tbps & Tfps)

⇐ Back to Relief Stitches

Front and Back post stitches, or the technique of using the post to form fabric, is an invaluable tool in many parts of Tunisian; from lace to cables.  It is well known in classic crochet. Above you can see a swatch with a couple different things going on... the illustration shows both front (top) and back (bottom) post stitches done with a simple stitch in between to separate them. Below you can see what each looks like when you use one or the other exclusively.

To make a Front Post Stitch (Tfps):Insert hook through the space before your next stitch, from the front to back to the front again, moving around both vert. bars and into the next space on the other side of the vert. bars, yarn over and pull up a loop.

To make a Back Post Stitch (Tbps): Insert hook through the space before your next stitch, from the back to front to the back again, moving around both vert. bars and into the next space on the other side of the vert. bars, yarn over and pull up a loop.
