The Simple Stitch, also called the Afghan Stitch, is the most commonly known Tunisian stitch. It is very versatile and easy to learn. Done with one long hook and without turning it weaves an intricate pattern with vertical and horizontal bars. This creates a thick, sturdy fabric; a very good base for patterns such as embroidery and cross stitch or row counts. Follow the instructions or check out the video bellow to learn how to complete the stitch...
To begin: Chain any number to length desired.
Row one forward: Insert hook into first chain space from hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop. * insert into next, yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat from * keeping all loops on hook. Row one return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.
Row two forward: Working forward again * insert hook from side to side under next vertical bar (behind front bar and in front of back bar), yarn over and draw up a loop. Repeat from * to last, keeping all loops on hook. Pull up a loop from the last. Row two return: Yarn over and pull back through one loop. * Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from * until one loop remains on hook.
Repeat row two for pattern.
